Beat the Blues – Week #37 Round-up

Here is a round-up of some of the most interesting content I came across in Week #37.

What I am currently reading:-

Waking up by Sam Harris

I’ve already become a big fan of Sam Harris’ Waking up for daily guided meditations and this book nicely complements the app, by exploring the thinking and definitions behind Sam’s approach to meditation – this becomes is particularly interesting because it comes from a vocal atheist who tries to separate the intertwined concept of religion and spirituality.

Here’s a quote from the book that I really liked:

“On one level, wisdom is nothing more profound than an ability to follow one’s own advice.”

What I am listening to:-

Hasan Minhaj’s conversation with Jay Shetty

Saying I like Hasan Minhaj would be an understatement – I’ve gotten into debates defending the Patriot Act and why Hasan is one of the best hosts in modern-day American television; now that would be a more accurate description.

Hasan talks about growing up as a minority, taking criticism on the show, how Patriot Act looks behind the scenes among other topics.

A writer I am following:-

The Endangered by Karthik Pasupathy

One of the hidden gems I found recently is a Substack publication by a fellow SaaS wiz – graceful and elegant with the pen, Karthik leaves you finding yourself related to situations from his life, even the ones you haven’t found yourself in.

What I’ve been upto:-

Closing Shop for the time being

As I mentioned in the previous episode, The Takeaway Club™ is going on a vacation after 16 weeks of Podcasting – as I sit down to evaluate the content, format, what worked, what didn’t, and everything in between. It is going to be fun.

I already have a couple of exciting ideas for when we come back later this year (or really early next year).

Oh, there’s one more thing.

In an impromptu finale, I conclude Season 1 with an amazing person that I’ve followed for years.

He is one of the most prolific writers on Quora with more than one and a half LAKH followers on Quora, where his answers have been read over 100 million times!

He is also one of the nicest guys, who sat down for a typical Joe Rogan style conversation where we discuss every topic under the sun!

Totally psyched for the episode to go live, next weekend 🙂

A quote I am pondering:-

Listening to Hasan on a podcast made me want to go back to a speech he gave at his alma mater.

Sharing a quote from the speech where he talks about how he succeeded in comedy:

“I wasn’t the funniest, I wasn’t the smartest, I’m not the tallest, I’m not the best looking, All those things I’m not, But I never stopped fighting through the pick”
