Beat the Blues – Week #38 Round-up
Here is a round-up of some of the most interesting content I came across in Week #38 of the year.
What I am currently reading:-
I stumbled onto this from a Substack publication that exclusively focuses on Monopoly.
Monopolized is a wonderful book with a ton of research, that paints a picture on the reality of the American markets.
When we think of monopolies, our mind goes to the tech giants like Google and Facebook – David takes us beyond that, opening the window to how a tiny group of corporations dominates every aspect of our lives; from the airlines, we fly to the food we eat.
What I am listening to:-
Conan and Stephen are two stalwarts of this (last?) generation’s comedy and when they get together for an intimate chat, it is simply fulfilling.
To hear them each trade stories on how they came to be, their insecurities, and what comedy means to them is a treat for the fans.
What I’ve been upto:-
In the last episode of The Takeaway Club™ for the season, I had a fantastic conversation with Deepak Mehta, someone I’ve been inspired by for years.
Just like his answers on Quora, we discuss everything – from his IIM days to work-life balance to the Indian society.
This was a truly special moment for me personally – for years, I have been a big fan of Deepak and his answers and he has had an immeasurable impact on my thinking and perspective on many delicate subjects; to have a 1:1 with him was something I couldn’t have imagined 4 months ago.
Though the conversation is pretty long, I have detailed notes and you can jump around to listen to the bits that you find interesting.
A quote I am pondering:-
“Easiest business arbitrage: the risk/reward of a well-written cold email is so wildly favorable, and yet so few people will actually send one” – Andrew Reed (@andrew__reed)
Have a fantastic week,
